Job Title:            Assistant Project Manager

Number of Posts: 01     

Tenure of Employment: The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for one year, renewable for subsequent years based on annual performance evaluation.

Duty Location: To be positioned in Delhi & manage activities in the destination states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura and the source states of Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand

Reports to: Project Director/Project Manager, Centre for Education and Communication (CEC)

Direct Report: 3-4

Responsible for: Coordination and management of the implementation of the EU-funded project, ‘Empowering CSOs for Decent work and Green bricks in India’s brick kilns’ in the project areas mentioned above, executed through Project officers in the respective states.

Assistant Project Manager will be primarily responsible for managing, supervising and coordinating overall project activities in consultation with Project Manager (PM)/project Director towards achieving the project objectives. S/he will be specifically responsible for the execution of Research and Training components in the project.

The position will also be responsible for leading project staff and consultants, supervise them and provide support and guidance for effective project implementation.

Responsibilities

•      Mobilize resources, guide and supervise project staff in order to effectively implement project activities.

•      Visit brick kilns and engage with CSOs on a regular basis in order to ensure that the project activities are on track.

•      Liaise and network with all relevant stakeholder including relevant central and state government departments, the human/child/labour rights CSOs; environmental CSOs; kiln workers in the source & destination states; brick kiln owners; scientific community, technology innovators, experts& trainers, local authorities..

•      Liaise with Project Manager, Project Director, Country Management Team and the project staff to maintain effective communication between both.

•      Periodic reporting of activities, in the required format to agreed timetable.

•      Documenting and maintaining reports on all activities, including working with the Project Manager to ensure that the experience and lessons learned from this initiative are documented and shared with all stakeholders and interested parties in India and with the EU.

•      Ensure that the visibility requirements in the contract with the EU are maintained

•      Maintain a proper accounting system for the project at the field level and assist field level staff in proper record keeping.

•      Take regular updates about all day to day administrative activities

Required Skills and experience

Project management (essential)

•      Experience of planning and delivering on-the ground project activities, to an agreed work plan and within budget.

•      Experience of monitoring and reporting project progress in accordance with funder requirements.

•      Experience of developing and maintaining relationships with a range of stakeholders including project partners, relevant central and state government departments, the human/child/labour rights CSOs; environmental CSOs; kiln workers in the source & destination states; brick kiln owners; scientific community, technology innovators, experts& trainers, local authorities.

•      Experience in conducting/coordinating research.

Stakeholder management: (essential)

•      Experience of developing and maintaining relationships with a range of stakeholders including relevant central and state government departments, the human/child/labour rights CSOs; environmental CSOs; kiln workers in the source & destination states; brick kiln owners; scientific community, technology innovators, experts& trainers, local authorities.

•      Strong communication skills.

Training and facilitation (essential)

•      Experience in developing training modules and in organising as well as conducting training programmes

•      Facilitating training sessions for brick kiln entrepreneurs and brick kiln workers.

Qualities (essential)

•      Ability to work on own, and take responsibility for own work programme.

•      Self-assured and ability to work under pressure and in challenging situations.

•      Positive, service oriented style.

•      Willingness to travel extensively to project areas and other geographical locations as required by the project

•      5-7 years experience preferably in similar role

Educational Qualification

•      Post Graduate or higher in social sciences, law or environmental sciences
