CITU for implementation of GOI's enhanced wage orders

The CITU, Andaman and Nicobar State Committee has demanded immediate implementation of the enhanced minimum wages to the schedule mentioned categories of workers engaged in the employment of "Construction or Maintenance of Roads or Runways or in Building Operations, etc. In a letter sent to the Lt. Governor, A & N Islands, B. Chandrachoodan, general secretary, CITU A & N State Committee, forwarding therewith a copy of Govt. of India's Notification dated January 19, 2017 on the issue, said that Port Blair town is included in Area ‘B’ while the rest of the union territory will come under the Area ‘C’ of the notification. He said that all the workers engaged in construction of buildings, roads and runways are eligible to get the enhanced minimum wages as per the said notification and said that thousands of workers are working in these sectors in A & N Islands. He also said that all these workers are entitled to get the enhanced wages calculated on daily wages besides adjusting the Variable Dearness Allowance at an interval of every six months commencing on 1st October and 1st April of every year on the basis of average Consumer Price Index Number for industrial workers. The rates of minimum wages have been reiterated/recirculated by the Chief Labour Commissioner, Ministry of Labour & Employment, New Delhi on March 17, 2017. The CITU requested the Lt. Governor to issue necessary instructions to the authorities concerned to ensure implementation of the revised minimum wages for the categories of workers working in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as indicated in the notification issued by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Labour & Employment, New Delhi.
