Six trade unions have demanded that daily wage for tea workers in Assam be increased to Rs 350. A joint statement, issued by the Citu, Intuc, AITUC, All India Central Council of Trade Unions, Hind Mazdoor Sabha and the All India United Trade Union Centre, expressed concern over the fact that the last wage agreement, signed between the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha and the Consultative Committee of Plantation Associations, Assam Valley branch, expired on December 31 last year but till date the new wage agreement has not been signed.
