Small tea growers in Assam have expressed their inability to pay Rs 244.56 as minimum wages to its workers. A notification issued by the Assam governor earlier this month said a draft proposal has been prepared in which the minimum wages to be paid to workers in small tea gardens has been kept at Rs 244.56. This is the first time that small tea growers have been asked to pay minimum wages. Wages are generally not fixed in small tea gardens.
