Bhashani Tea Estate under Rajganj block of Jalpaiguri reopened today after remaining shut for about 10 days. The garden's workers, numbering some 200, welcomed the management's decision to re-open the garden before Diwali. The workers' union and owners held a meeting where two permanent workers, Makhan Roy and Ram Prasad Cheruwa, and one temporary worker Sukra Munda, were suspended from work for 15 days for dereliction of duty. The garden was shut down before Navratri celebrations after a worker assaulted the assistant manager during a meeting, bringing proceedings to an abrupt halt. They had assembled to find an amicable solution to restore electricity supply in the labour quarters.
