Deputy Speaker resents condition of small tea growers, role of TTDC

The deputy speaker of state assembly Pabitra Kar has expressed disappointment over the poor condition of the state's small tea growers and the failure of Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC) to come to their rescue. Addressing the third state conference of the small tea growers association in the community hall of Durgabari tea estate in Bamutia area of Sadar (north) Kar said that the condition of small tea growers has not improved up to expectations over the past few years. 'Almost all the small tea growers are forced to sell their produce to larger gardens and private factories but they fail to get proper price for them; the state government had set up two tea factories at Brahmakunda in Mohanpur subdivision and Kamalpur but they have also been leased out' Kar said . The deputy speaker who is also the president of the small tea growers association said that the Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC), a PSU of the state government, was not playing a satisfactory role in improving the lot of the small tea growers . He expressed the hope that the TTDC would come forward in the near future to help out the small tea growers.The state conference also constituted a 27 member committee of the small tea growers association in which Pabitra Kar was chosen as president and Harishankar Debnath as the general secretary.
