This study identifies the current trends in child labour in beedi industry. It also explains why child labour in beedi industry is growing, while it clearly shows a decline at national level as a general trend. The study highlights the living and working conditions of beedi workers in general and child workers in particular, to unveil the social and economic realities that force the children to start beedi rolling at an early age. This study was conducted among the homebased beedi workers in the rural areas of Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh. The study was conducted by Surendra Pratap in 2001. It was supported by CEC’s consortium funders.
