This is an attempt to provide a history of construction workers in Tamil Nadu and their struggles. It is a journey into the struggles of construction workers, in their attempt to organize themselves, for recognition in society, better working and living conditions, decent wages and social, economic and legal safeguards. It also gives an account of the Tamil Maanila Kattida Thozhilalar Sangam (TMKTS), a union that has been at the forefront of organizing construction workers and their struggles in Tamil Nadu since 1983.
