Liberalisation has paved the way for the entry of large transnational corporations in the manufacturing sector in India. The entry of big consumer electronics players like LG and Samsung, and computer manufacturers like IBM and Wipro, has intensified the competition in the Indian electronics market. The competition has also reflected upon the working conditions and management practices in the Indian electronics industry. The study is a preliminary survey of the working conditions in electronics industry in India. It accounts the growth and volume of production and business of electronics industry in India. It also looks into the impact of liberalisation in terms of changes in management practices, working conditions, and labour practices with regard to employment conditions, social security, gender issues, unionisation, and occupational health and safety concerns of workers.
