Transforming the Lives of Migrant Workers Across Sectors
ShramBandhu, an initiative of the Centre for Education and Communication (CEC), is dedicated to addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by migrant workers across various sectors, including brick kilns, construction, and other informal industries. These workers, who form the backbone of India’s economy, often live in abysmal conditions, lacking access to basic rights such as healthcare, education, and social protection. ShramBandhu aims to change this reality by providing holistic interventions that empower workers and their families to secure their rights and live with dignity.
Healthcare Access and Well-being: Migrant workers frequently suffer from health issues due to unsafe working environments, poor nutrition, and lack of access to healthcare. ShramBandhu organises regular health camps in collaboration with local health services, including ASHA, ANM workers, Primary Health Centers (PHCs), and Community Health Centers (CHCs). Additionally, our team connects workers with regular healthcare facilities and government healthcare schemes, ensuring that they receive the care they are entitled to.
Child Support and Education: Children of migrant workers are often left vulnerable, lacking access to proper education and facing severe malnutrition. ShramBandhu addresses these challenges through Child Support Centres that provide nutritious meals and educational support, helping children transition into mainstream education. Our engagement with local schools and authorities also ensures that these children are included in national education initiatives and welfare programmes, breaking the cycle of exclusion and poverty.
Social Protection and Livelihood Security: Migrant workers frequently miss out on social protection benefits due to lack of awareness, bureaucratic hurdles, and inadequate documentation. ShramBandhu actively works to bridge this gap by facilitating access to government schemes such as the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (BOCW), ICDS, and the Public Distribution System (PDS). By helping workers obtain necessary documents and guiding them through the process of enrolment in these schemes, we ensure that they receive the social protection they need to secure their livelihoods.
Empowering Women and Strengthening Communities: ShramBandhu places a strong emphasis on empowering women, who are often doubly marginalised within migrant worker communities. Through workshops on reproductive health, financial planning, and social entitlements, we equip women with the knowledge and skills needed to become self-reliant and support their families’ well-being. This, in turn, strengthens the entire community, fostering a collective approach to overcoming the socio-economic challenges they face.
Stakeholder Engagement for Systemic Change: ShramBandhu not only works directly with migrant workers but also engages with key stakeholders—including employers and contractors, government authorities, local institutions, and civil society organisations—to ensure effective implementation of national programmes and policies. Through continuous dialogue, it facilitates improved access to healthcare, education, and social protection, creating pathways for systemic change that benefit migrant workers across sectors.
At ShramBandhu, we believe that every worker deserves a life of dignity, safety, and opportunity. By focusing on healthcare, education, social protection, and community empowerment, we aim to create lasting change for migrant workers and their families, helping them rise above their circumstances and reclaim their rightful place in society.

Why Your Support is Urgent
At brick kilns, workers, their families, and children lack essential healthcare, education, and social protection. Your contribution ensures better health services, education, and opportunities for migrant workers and their families.
Your Contribution Matters
To run our interventions at 5 brick kilns for 7 months (every year from November to May), supporting around 250 children and their families, we require a total budget of Rs. 25,00,000. Your contribution can make a significant impact:
Rs. 5,000: Provide educational materials for a Child Support Center.
Rs.10,000: Cover logistics for a workshop or health camp at one brick kiln.
Rs.30,000: Cover facilitator’s fee for a Child Support Center.
Rs.50,000: Provide nutritious meals for 50 children at one kiln for a month.
Rs.100,000: Sponsor the health camps at five brick kilns, reaching 50 families per kiln.
Rs. 500,000: Support all operations at one brick kiln for 7 months.
