Ooty: Tea Board's advice to small growers in Hills

Small tea growers in the Nilgiris have been asked to adhere to good agriculture practices to regulate growth in tea gardens to pave for quality tea production. In a statement, Mr. C. Paulrasu, executive director of the Tea Board of India zonal office at Coonoor near here, said April-to-October is the period in which maximum growth and yield is obtained in tea crop and is called "rush period". During this period, manufacturing units also tend to involve in continuous collection of green tea leaves and production, thereby lowering quality.
