Changing obsolete laws goal of Labour Ministry

The government wants to create new employment and is committed to reforms which benefit both employer and employee, Shankar Aggarwal, secretary, Ministry of Labour said in Udhagamandalam. Aggarwal added that many labour laws in the country were created in 20s, 40s, 50s and 70s and these have become outdated. He was speaking at the concluding session of India International Tea Convention 2016. "There are two key bills from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, covering industrial relations and wages. After GST, they will be passed by the Parliment. We have got to change, but there is huge resistance from labour unions. We are committed, we are replacing 44 labour laws, with four labour codes," said Aggarwal.
