Building workers demand pension

Members of Andhra Pradesh Building Construction Workers' Association on Friday demanded Rs.3,000 as pension to those workers above the age of 60. In a meeting held in which 12 trade unions took part, they decided to pressure the State government to refund Rs.2,300 crores which was diverted from the Construction Workers' Welfare Board. "These funds were used for other purposes such as pushkarams and development works.”Association State secretary S. Venkata Subbaiah demanded scrapping of Chandranna Bima scheme to workers as they were getting less money, and urged the government to implement the benefits from the welfare board. "The benefit are more and the money received is also on the higher side," he pointed out. He said the welfare board should also take care of the educational needs of the children of the workers.
