Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis approved a reservation of 50% for mill workers and their families in all the rental housing schemes in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The rental housing scheme is being run by MMRDA since 2007 in which flats are given on rental basis to lower income group families. With this decision, another 7700 houses will be available for mill workers. Since the government has already allotted 10,768 houses, this number would now go up to 18,468. These houses are 320sq ft in size.
