About 5,000 anganwadi workers and Asha workers from across the state joined a march to the Vidhan Sabha in the state capital on Friday, seeking better terms of employment and recognition as employees of the state. Presenting a memorandum addressed to chief minister Vasundhara Raje, the workers protested that although the state and central governments had earlier promised greater social security to those engaged in the unorganized sector, they were doing nothing to keep their promises. The workers were demanding that they be paid Rs15,000 per month as minimum wages, until such time as they are recognized as employees of the government. They also sought pension and gratuity for retired workers.
